Presentan megáfilos (macrófilos), con nerviación ramificada. Las frondes dejan intersticios foliares en las estelas.
Presentan esporangios que pueden ser de dos tipos.
- Eusporangios
:: Grandes, sésiles o con pedúnculos macizos, con una gran número de esporas y pared pluriestratificada, al menos durante las primeras etapas de la esporogénesis.
- Leptosporangios
:: Pequeños y con un pedúnculo delgado. Con un número de esporas definido y múltiplo de dos. El grosor de la pared es de pocas células (monoestratificada). Unas 10.000 especies

Славянският Сварог съответства на бог Хефест в древногръцката митология. Подобно на него, Сварог е творец на слънчевия диск, който у елините е наричан Хелиос, а у славяните — Хърс, един от аватарите на Даждбог.
